Inspiration :: Rookie Magazine

Rookie Mag is a magazine started by 15-year-old fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson. It has been around for a little while and though it's mostly written for teenage girls, I couldn't stop from browsing through every bit of it last night. It brought me back to high school (which some may joke wasn't too long ago) but it's so interesting to see things that are very different now and how a lot things obviously never change. For example, there have always been teenagers shooting their own fashion stories like the one above - ask any fashion stylist, makeup artist, photographer or hairstylist - but technology has changed things so rapidly, they can now be uploaded to flickr, an online magazine, or any other social network and have hundreds of other people give feedback on them. I find it really quite exciting.

The photos above were styled by Tavi and shot by photographer Petra Collins for Rookie Magazine, you should definitely go check it out.

p.s. I have always wanted to go Salvation Mountain (the location of this shoot). Doesn't it look like so much fun?

I've never heard of this mountain. It seems so rad, though and to think every summer as a kid, I was so close to it. I hope you go one day!

Oh my-I wish I looked that good in high school. I think it is exciting too-instead of big magazines doing shoots of what they think high schoolers would do-you actually have them driving the shoot, styling it-so you really see it through their eyes. Amazing.

I have also been dying to go to this mountain-it seems so surreal.
