Tutorial :: Enhance Your Curls With a Curling Iron

I made today's tutorial along with my good friend Chantell, she is who I recommended all of my clients to when I left my old salon and moved to Paris. She is beautiful, so great to talk to and has the BEST hair. I used to style her hair this way all the time and it was so much fun to do.

While I love having curly hair, it is definitely very inconsistent - I wish I had more definition and less frizz! So, to add definition and create more curl consistency, I sometimes use an iron. It's super easy and takes as little or as much time as I'd like it to.

Here's what you need:
- a curling iron that matches the size of your natural curls
- dry hair

1. Look at your curls and find a curling iron close in size. I am using a 1/4" barrel for my curls. Also take note on what curls you'd like to enhance a bit more. My hair is flatter on the top so I'm going to focus on enhancing the curls on the top of my head to give it a better overall shape.

2. Start by taking small sections on the top of your head and around your face. Leave any curls that are frizz-free and waving well alone and individually pick ones that aren't looking so good. The smaller your curls are, the smaller your sections will be. Mine were about 1/4" sections.

3. Once you have your section, open your curling iron and start wrapping your hair around the barrel starting as close to your roots as possible. Don't clamp the iron, just wrap your hair around the open barrel and hold your hair on the iron until its hot, about 10 seconds.

4. Pull the hair off the iron and stretch the hair out while it cools to match the consistency of your curls that won't be ironed.

5. When you reach the middle of your head, you can also just curl from the mid-shaft through the ends, this way your hair looks as natural as possible.

*Tips: No two curls are ever exactly the same, so don't over-think it and just randomly grab hair!

My little sister has curly hair. There's no telling how her hair will look on any given day. I sent her this link so she could check this out. Thanks for sharing!
